Q1: What program should I register my child for?

A: Please see the chart to better clarify where your child best fits into Anoka Ramsey Baseball based on birthdates. Any child that falls on or in-between each age category is recommended to play for this group. Baseball has Nationally adopted guidelines for those 10 years old and up and we have extended this to our entire program that we are offering. If you feel your child is not playing with the appropriate age level, please email baseball@arsports.org with your request. Some exceptions:

A traveling player may only play up if he is playing with his grade. See traveling baseball Q & A.
Children that have had 2 years of Coaches Pitch and are 8 years old may play 10U recreational. This is not recommended but permissible if parent and coach feels the individual is ready for kids pitch.

Q2: When can I plan on taking vacation time if I do not want my child to miss out on baseball

House: All games, tournaments and playoffs will be completed on July 18th for House 10u/12u and 6/20 for T-Ball/Maching Pitch programs. For the NSL (North Star League) 13u and 15u games are scheduled thru the middle of July. Please check individual teams schedules when available.

In the past, some teams had to forfeit games in the playoffs because family vacations were planned and the team did not have enough players to participate. If you know that you will be taking an extended vacation (2-4 weeks) please let your League Director know. There may be options that he can work out with the team ie: putting a extra player on the team etc.

Traveling: All tournaments and playoffs are usually done after the 3rd week in July unless a team decides to play in other tournaments.

Q3: If my son does not make a traveling team, will he be automatically placed in a house team?
Traveling:
Yes, your child will automatically be placed in a house team. His uniform size that he is issued at tryouts will also follow him to this house team.

Q4: I am signing my child on-line and the program he wants to be in is not an option.  What do I do?
House:
Anoka Ramsey Baseball along with baseball at a national level has established age parameters for each age category; see chart.  We do, however, recognize special instances where a child wants to play in his grade vs. age level.  If this is the case, please email baseball@arsports.org and submit your request.

Q5: My child wants to play with a certain individual or coach.  How do I request this?
House:
When registering your child, a special request field will be offered.  This is where you will enter the coaches or Childs name.  Anoka Ramsey Baseball will do its best to fulfill each request but not all are guaranteed. The first priority of this organization is to try to create the most evenly talented teams as possible and requests may not be filled for those reasons.

Q6: What equipment is needed for the baseball program?
House:
All that is needed is tennis shoes, glove, and athletic supporter. Shared team helmets our provided. Parents do have the option to purchase a personal helmet. (If you do this please label it properly so other players do not use it)

Traveling: It is recommended for traveling baseball cleats, sliding shorts, personal helmet etc.  Please talk to your coach about the necessary equipment.

Q7:: Is 3-4 years old too young for T-Ball?
House: We would like to introduce the kids to baseball at age 5.

Q8:: My Childs uniform just does not fit.  What can I do?
House & Traveling: First, contact the coach to see if there are any other members within the team you can  exchange with. This is preferred.  If this is not an option, bring your new uniform, cannot be worn, to Anoka Sport Shack located on Main Street in Anoka for a possible exchange. (Anoka Sports Shack number to Anoka Sports Shack 763-427-7816)

Q9:: The coach has not called.  Is my child on a team?
House: Please go to www.arsports.org and click the link associated with either House or Traveling program.  All House rosters will be listed on this link with the coaches name and phone number.  Please contact your coach if you have any questions about practice or team meeting times. Game schedules will be online.

Q10: My child was in tryouts and we are wondering if he made a traveling team.
Traveling:
All traveling tryout results will be listed on the traveling portion of the website.  If your child is NOT on the list, he did not make a traveling team and will be automatically registered to a house team.  The participants that are listed are in no particular order alphabetical order. Please email baseball@arsports.org if you decide not to play house baseball by March 21, 2008

Q11: How did my child do in the tryout process?
Traveling:
All information and data processed from the tryout process is held strictly confidential.  No one outside the board or coaches are allowed to access this information. The coaches and board are not allowed to share any of these results.

Q12: The other House team seems stacked with good players.  Why did the league let this happen?
House:
Anoka Ramsey Baseball makes every attempt to make each team as even and competitive as possible.  No coach or families can request multiple players to be on a team.  All "Chain" requests are broken and distributed on an even basis. Please understand that some teams will rise to the top every season. In 2010, the U10 league will be drafted in an effort to spread out the decision making process for selecting the U10 teams. Other levels may be drafted in 2011 if the U10 experiment is a success.

Q16: I noticed that all participant families for in-house and traveling are required to volunteer.  How can I help?
House & Traveling:
There will be a $50 DEPOSIT PER PLAYER collected at registration for all players participating in House and Traveling Baseball, including T-Ball and Coaches Pitch.  Families that choose online registration will need to get their checks to their coach prior to the first practice of the season. See House Volunteer Policy for the In-House teams and the Traveling Volunteer Policythe traveling teams:

House & Traveling:
Yes, one head coach and up to 2 assistants must get a background check.  Each coach must submit abackground release and submit this to the board during equipment hand out.  Each coach must bring a valid ID during this time.  Each will be Notarized for authenticity.[Link background check form]

Q18: What additional costs are there for traveling baseball besides the registration fee?
Traveling:
There will be a $20.00 non-refundable tryout fee for each participant in traveling.  These costs are used to cover facility, equipment, and independent rater costs.  Each traveling team will be required to attend 3-4 tournaments per year.  A budget of $100- $150.00 per participant should be used to cover these tournament expenses.  Individual team fundraising is encouraged.

Q19: What days of the week is baseball being played?
House:
T-Ball will play on Monday/Wednesday and the other AR House leagues will have practices and games spread between Sunday, Tuesday and Thrusday. All House teams will also have a game schedule on Friday, May 21 or May 22 at Ramsey Central Park in addition to the Saturday schedule for the end of the season tournament. We are striving for T-ball through U12 to be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will depend on the amount of teams and field availability. 13U House, 14-15 House, and all do not have set days of play. A schedule from the coach should be given to each family prior to the season start and will be available online. Monday and Wednesday will be open for coaches to have extra practices if scheduled with the field coordinator.
Traveling: AR Traveling teams do not have set game days. Tournaments run Friday evening through Sunday.

Q20: What times will games be playing?
House & Traveling:
All AR House and Traveling team games usually start at 6:15. Coaches may want each participant on the field 1 hour earlier prior to the game for warm-ups. Practices will be set at the coaches’ discretion.

Q21: What fields will we be playing on?
House & Traveling: For all home games, Anoka Ramsey Baseball utilizes fields from both Ramsey and Anoka. Away games for Traveling and North Star league may consist of up to 45 minute travel time. See website for schedule when available and field locations and maps. [Field Locations]
