SKILLS CLINIC - Training for all athletes

Joe Waalk who has coached at both the College and High School levels is coming in to train our kids in all the basics.  Clinics will consist of an hour hitting and an hour of fielding/throwing skills.

Hitting - Joe will review and go over stance, bat position, contact point/eyes at contact and how to hit the different pitch locations.  Video will be used to provide instant feedback and show the kids what is needed to correct the problems while emphasizing the good points of their swing.

Fielding/Throwing -  skills will be reviewed and an emphasis will be placed on proper positioning (PFP’s; perfect fielding position) and transition from PFP to the throw.

DON’T FORGET

  • We want everyone to come and have fun, bring a friend and introduce them to softball.
  • Our skills clinics are FREE to all families.  No registration required – just show up!
  • Equipment to bring – glove, tennis shoes, bat & helmet.  Families needing equipment please let us know.  We do have some that we can share.  We just want your daughter to come and give softball a try.  (if you need equipment please email – softball@arsports.org).

PITCHING CLINIC

ARAA is bringing in Kent Reed who is the Head Pitching Clinician for New Prague Fastpitch Association.  He has been working with pitchers for over five years breaking down the windmill/powerline mechanics, stride, and wrist snap.  He has two daughters who pitch at the elite level.   Check it out…(New Prague Pitcher Leads Team Through Playoffs)

Kent fully breaks down all aspects of the pitching motion and works a great deal on each element.  The thought is that if you just come in and throw you are enhancing some of the improper mechanics you may have in your delivery.    He uses video giving your child instant feedback allowing them to see and feel what proper mechanics is all about.  This clinic will also provide drills to do outside of clinic i.e. homework.  Parent involvement in this learning process is strongly encouraged.

This is a nine (9) week clinic – Friday nights starting Jan 9th - and the cost is $150.  Provide your own catcher. (Please include pitching background when reserving spot at: softball@arsports.org you will be assigned a time slot).
