Soccer Referee Certification
The process is as easy as 1, 2, 3.....4!

If you are at least 12 years old and interested in becoming a soccer referee for Northern Lights Soccer Club, there are some basic steps you need to follow.

  1. Follow the Minnesota SRC link to the left and find a certification clinic to attend.  If you have any questions as to which grade level you are or what clinic you should be attending, please email Merry Hilger at mnrefassignor@comcast.net 
  2. Upon successful completion of your certification/re-certification clinic, visit the M&D Sports website http://www.merryhilger.com/forms.htm and complete the required employment paperwork.
  3. Obtain an "Assign-by-web" login and password to complete your availability information.
  4. Wait for game assignments and simply accept or reject the assignment.

Acronyms & Definitions

Here is a brief explanation of where the links on the left take you, and the purpose of the organizations listed.

Minnesota State Referee Committee (MN-SRC)
This organization is the soccer referee governing body in the state of Minnesota.  They are responsible for overseeing the development of referees, instructors and assessors in Minnesota.  This is also the contact point for certification/re-certification clinics.

NLS Referee Assignor
M&D Sports is the contracted company that is responsible for assigning games to referees.  As a soccer referee, you are a private contractor that works for M&D Sports.  This is also you first point of contact for all questions.

MYSA Referee Info
Minnesota Youth Soccer Association also recognizes the MN-SRC as the referee governing body in Minnesota.  This link will give you important information regarding MYSA modifications to the official rules of the game.  Phone numbers and email addresses are also available for MN-SRC contacts.

FIFA Laws of the Game
Federation International Football Association is the international governing body for soccer.  All soccer games in Northern Lights operate using the FIFA laws of the game with MYSA modifications (in some cases).

MYSA Rule Modifications
Current rules manual of Minnesota Youth Soccer Association.  This manual is the FIFA Laws of the Game and the modifications for youth games.
