While we would all love to be on the field playing this season, we still are not. With the recent guidelines that have been set forth from the state, we do not feel that we can follow them in the current phase. Those guidelines along with the likelihood of no tournaments for the summer and no guaranteed game start date, has led the board to make the extremely difficult decision to cancel the 2020 spring/summer season of softball.
We are not the only association to take this action and with the lack of guaranteed games, likely not the last.
Player safety was our number one concern in addition to providing a beneficial and fun season. We didn’t see the first happening in a reasonable setting and the latter at all.
Please understand no one expected or wanted this season to resemble what it has. The board never wanted this outcome and we tried very hard to postpone this decision in hopes the direction provided would be more definitive and provide a season after all.
The board will be meeting next week to plan refunds and the distribution of jerseys. Once we have a plan in place we will notify everyone of the process. We will then shift our focus to planning fall ball and our 2021 season.
